FAQs

What do you charge?

Due to the range of forms a project can take, quotes are created on a per-project basis. Coming from the perspective of being in a thrash-death band for the last 20 years, I aim to quote fairly and offer great value.

Some of the factors that will influence a quote include: song track count and length, what do the tracks need prior to mixing (Do they require editing? Post processing clean up - noise, etc.? Is vocal tuning needed (or desired?) - and various other factors).

If you are wondering but unsure if you want to go ahead, please simply fill in the Quote Request Form and we can start a conversation. The process is open, friendly and totally obligation free.

Do you offer services other than mixing?

Yes! Whilst this website is positioned to promote the mixing service in particular, I regularly take on projects that include any or all of the following:

  • Tracking (generally servicing 1 hour out of Melbourne and I am stationed in Chewton VIC)

  • Editing (Drums, guitars, vocals etc.)

  • Vocal Tuning

  • Mastering

  • DDP Creation (for pressing CDs)

  • Drum Programming (including printed tracks via Superior Drummer 3)

  • Session Guitars & Heavy Vocals

What are your turnaround times like?

This can greatly depend on what is required so can generally give a pretty clear outline once we have some more information on the project. I take deadlines very seriously and understand the importance of respecting agreed delivery times consistently.

Do you work exclusively on Metal?

Absolutely not. Whilst my work has focused more around the metal subgenres and am intimately familiar with the Death, Thrash and Black metal sub genres especially, I have worked on and love working on a huge range of styles. I’ve tracked and mixed beautiful soulful singers against subtle acoustic guitar backing tracks and mastered some incredible soundtrack work full of orchestras and electronic elements. Making tracks work on an emotional level is a challenge I love so please don’t hesitate if you have something incredibly “non-metal” to explore.

What DAW to you work in, and do I need to use the same?

I have worked in Cubase Pro for a long time and it is my DAW of choice. However, I have worked in collaboration with artists using most DAWs, including Pro Tools, Studio One, Logic, and Ableton Live. You will receive a guide outlining how to deliver your .WAV tracks, tempo tracks and any required midi files. Once I have all required files, bouncing back and forth is effortless.

Do you require payment up front?

I generally work with a 50% deposit before booking dates, and the remaining 50% required upon completion/approval and before delivery of final files. For larger projects including multiple tracking days, it is common to work with 1/3 deposit, 1/3 upon tracking completion and final 1/3 on mixing approval. Again please fee free to contact me if you have any further questions in this regard.
